Rules of Roulette

There are two types of roulette; American roulette having 38 numbers(1 to 36 and 0 to 00) and European roulette also known as the French roulette that has 37 numbers (1 to 36, 0). When playing roulette, there are a total of 1 to 7 people seated on the table. Behind the table stands the dealer also known as the croupier and on the back there is also the wheel and the betting area.

The players will bet until a time when the dealer announces that there are no more bets. The player places his wager and waits until that time when the ball stops rolling. This is a simple game to play as compared to a game like blackjack or poker which requires much thoughts and strategies. If you are a beginner gambler, this is the ideal game for you.

The objective of this game is to correctly guess which number will hit after the ball is landed on the slot.

Backgammon etiquettes

Backgammon etiquettes are essential for every player whether you are playing online or in real life, whether you are playing for money or free. Manners in this game counts because if you treat the person you are playing with the way you would like to be treated, you will always find someone willing to play the game of backgammon with you. You should not in any way make comments about how your opponent is lucky because this implies that he is only lucky and not having the skills to win the game.

When you are playing backgammon online, you should not do other things like making phone calls while you leave your opponent waiting on the other end. You should be aware that when you are playing backgammon online, there is a real person on the other end and do not just assume that it is a computer generated player.

Poker Raise vs. Backgammon Doubling

In poker, the raise is one of the most powerful weapons. The raise is when a player tells his opponents to throw in more money to the pot or concede that they have lost that pot. Good poker players rise most often aggressively and by so doing, their opponents are kept off balance and thus they will be forced to make losing decisions. Whereas in backgammon, the most important thing is the doubling cube which is a six-sided object with the numbers 2 to 64 on it.

When playing the game, the cube is placed between the players with the number 64 facing up. Poker raise is similar to backgammon doubling. In backgammon, just like in poker, the double forces the player to concede and fold the pot or to throw more money into the pot. In this case, the stake of the game is the pot and once a player folds, it means that he has conceded.

Backgammon Poker

Most of the great poker players are also backgammon players. The reason is because both of these games share some similarities. Backgammon is a kind of a game that uses a specific equipment of dice cups, checkers and dices in a board that has 24 triangles. When you are playing backgammon poker, each player is given fifteen checkers which he set up in a given fashion. The opponent also sets up his checkers of different colors.

The objective of backgammon is to take up all your checkers into your home quadrant which is six points and then take them up on the board faster than your opponent before he gets the chance to do so. Moving your checkers is only restricted to a horseshoe fashion and if you have the highest number of checkers, you are the one to move either one checker or two into the spaces on the board.

Backgammon Software

There are various backgammon software available in the market and each one is played depending on the type of computer they can run on. For instance, there is the Backgammon 2k which is used to play and to reload games. This type of backgammon uses doubling cubes and it requires the roll type or manual entry to install in the computer. You have the ability to choose from several styles of players.

There is also the David’s Backgammon which was developed by David Byrum and it has good graphics and sound effects. You can pick any number of players at any time and you can save the game and resume when you need it. This type of backgammon game has three versions namely Carbon version meant for OS X 68k version for 68k Macs and PPC version for OS 8/9 Classic. Other backgammon software include the Gnu Backgammon for MacOS X, Absolute Backgammon, PC Gammon IV, The Dream Machine, Pocket Backgammon 2.2 among several others

Online vs. Offline Backgammon Tournaments

There are both online and offline forms of backgammon tournaments. Each of these is different to the other in the way they are played like throwing the dice, being able to see your opponent physically and moving the men.

Whatever format of backgammon you play, whether online or offline, you are bound to cheat. In most cases, when you are playing the live backgammon, the players can attempt to make illegal moves, cheat using the dice or edit the score. These are some of the common cheats that you experience when playing backgammon.

Cheating is not common with the offline format because you will be seated directly opposite your opponent and you will be able to see directly his face. When you play backgammon online, it is not easy to detect cheating and there have instances whereby the players use aids like Snowie and Jellyfish software that aid in deciding the next move.

Backgammon and Technology

Backgammon is the oldest game known by mankind. This is a type of game is played by two players on a board that contains triangles called “points”. It also has the narrow triangles which are grouped into 6 triangles in every quarter of the board. The board thus has four quarters, two in every side. The triangles also alternate in color. This alternating in color assists in the counting of the moves.

Each quarter is referred to as the player’s home board and is usually that quarter that is to your right hand side. The outer board is that quadrant that is to your far left, we also have the opponent’s outer and home boards. Backgammon is an interesting game which when you learn the tricks and turns you will not face any challenge from your opponent. This type of game is similar to poker in the way it is played and that is why poker players are also good at backgammon.

Bearing off in Backgammon

Bearing off in backgammon is possible when a player has moved all his men into his own home board. A player has to take out a man that represents the number of dice like rolling a 4 enables the player to remove a man from point four. A player must make a legal move using any man on a higher number point if the number that comes is not occupied by any men during a roll on.

A player has to remove a man from the highest point possible if there are not any men on higher numbered points. A legal move can be made by the player at his discretion hence facilitating a bearing off. To bear off, all men must be on player’s home board. Any deviated man must be brought back to the home board by the player to continue to bear off. The first player in bearing off wins.

Introduction to Doubling Cube

Doubling cube involves a cubical block that looks like a dice but slightly bigger. On its faces are marked numbers 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64. It’s used to keep track on increases in stakes in a particular game. Shows the player who is supposed to double his/her stakes. It is placed in the middle with number 64 on top that represents value 1.

A player offering to double would then turn the cube to a higher value and then passes it to the next player. An opponent acceptance to double enables him to place the cube on his side in the backgammon board and takes ownership of the cube and giving him the right to redouble the stakes.

The knowledge of when to double using doubling cube can be exciting and fun for the player. A player expands his/her strategy when the value of doubling cube is grasped.

Importance of Equity in Backgammon

Concepts of equity are an important building block to understanding backgammon. The basic concepts include match equity that refers to match winning chances. It is defined in terms of away points and the score does not matter in this case. Match equity is affected by gammon frequency. Recent studies tend to prefer higher gammon frequency as it is must better than lower gammon frequency.

The equity position is its mathematical expectation. When a valuation of a computer position is shown, it appears as a backgammon win, gammon and backgammon win, total win, total loss or a gammon and backgammon loss. Equity matters because it governs cube decisions and entails the evaluation of decisions.

A cube equity position equals the cubeless equity if cube is dead, equal to or greater than the cubeless equity if one owns a cube and equal to or less cubeless equity if opponent owns the cube. These equity concepts represent building blocks for backgammon.
